THE
WISE WOMEN VIDEO SERIES
When I decided it was time that I produced a videotape on something that reflected my concerns, instead of concentrating
on the projects of business clients … when my friend Lily Cann, Avalon Video Productions expressed
an interest in working together
on a video …when my friend Ruth Gardner told me about her mother-daughter croning ceremony …the collaboration bells began to toll.
We worked together to produce the videotape:
Celebration of Age, the Croning Ceremony.
Because of this video, I was invited by Mary Diamond, to join with
Marilyn Bacon, a videographer from California, to document the spiritual retreat of sixteen women over 62. They came together from
all over the country to study the contributions that old women could
make to better our world.
The videotape result:
Grandmothers Speak: Healing the Earth.
At this retreat, I met two grandmothers who were committed
to environmental homes, Mary Diamond living in her straw bale
house and Shirley Tassencourt building her earth dome dwellings. I worked with two Tucson videographers, Z Woods and Veronica
Angel, to complete the project:
Architects of Change: Two Grandmothers.
A grant from the Grandmother Winifred Foundation allowed me
to
produce a videotape about Shirley Tassencourt, teacher,
artist, environmentalist and wise woman:
Sage for All Seasons
Malka Goldenwolf, now head of the International Council of Wise Women,
was in charge of an annual celebration for women of age called
Crone Counsel III. She asked me to join with Beverly Nelson, who had offered to videotape the conference. The documentary was added
to the Wise Women Videos:
Celebrating Our Lives
Each project meant I had the good fortune to meet, interview
and work with wonderful women from all parts of the United States and other countries as well. I treasure the friendships I have made through
writing and producing the video collection.
But there’s more. The videos then introduced me to
women who bought
them and used them in traditional and surprising ways, with family and friends,
women in circles, cancer patients, abused women, nursing and med students,
gerontology teachers, prisoners, church groups, and homeless women. Emails from Iceland and Denmark, letters from Florida, New Hampshire, California,
Texas, Minnesota and states in between, I’ve been in touch with inspirational
women of age. I am a lucky woman. One thing leads to another.
Thank you, universe, for that.
